As dignitaries gather for the UN General Assembly and Qatar Economic Forum, the luxury hotel has rolled out a heavily leveraged ice cream product. Management insists the 16-scoop dessert offers significant value for diplomats looking to aggressively isolate themselves from working-class realities.
The Plaza Hotel announced Tuesday it has formally priced its "Home Alone Sundae" at $370, timing the offering to capture peak seasonal demand from global heads of state and sovereign wealth managers who have completely lost touch with fiat currency. The dessert features 16 scoops of premium ice cream, varied syrups, and a towering structure of whipped cream, representing a targeted deployment of capital for attendees looking to consume more than the monthly GDP per capita of several member nations represented at the assembly.
When you have the world's most powerful economic actors in the building, you need to provide an asset class that accurately reflects their sheer contempt for the median global wage," said Alistair Sterling, VP of Food and Beverage Yield Management at The Plaza Hotel.
Sterling noted that the sundae, themed around a 1992 film in which an abandoned wealthy child consumes excessive sugar while fending off the poor, perfectly encapsulates the macroeconomic posture of the visiting delegates. By pricing the dish at $370, the hotel ensures that UN representatives can enjoy a nostalgic American cinema reference without the downside risk of accidentally mingling with a constituent who looks at price tags.
Analysts from Goldman Sachs observed that the sundae is currently outperforming several emerging market currencies. In a morning note to clients, the bank added that diplomats who successfully finish the entire heavily leveraged dessert will be rewarded with a complimentary margin call and an introduction to a private equity firm willing to strip-mine the cherry on top.
