Climate activists accidentally chained to manatee refuse to detach until EPA finalizes methane rules

Local wildlife officials observing the situation from a skiff reported that the manatee appears entirely unbothered by the sudden addition of three adults in neoprene suits. The animal has continued surfacing for air at regular ten-minute intervals, occasionally pausing to scratch its back against a limestone outcropping while the activists struggle to keep their soaked protest banner above the waterline. Despite the navigational error, the group issued a statement via waterproof radio confirming they will remain attached to the sirenian until the EPA finalizes its delayed methane emission rules.

The incident marks the second time this year that direct action against offshore infrastructure has been inadvertently absorbed by the environment, following a March protest where activists glued themselves to a decommissioned pipeline hours before it was sunk to form an artificial reef. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission stated that safely detaching the current protesters will require a specialized hydraulic cutting tool, a procurement process expected to outlast the timeline for Chevron to actually publish its scope-three emissions targets. The manatee was last seen drifting toward a dense mangrove inlet, slowly pulling the activists out of the commercial shipping channel as they await the morning tide.
