If approved, the oil major plans to sell the hurricane-avoidance credits to long-haul aviation firms looking to achieve net-zero pledges without reducing flight volume.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which originally predicted an aggressively active season, declined to comment on the industry's filings. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Shell noted that the company will proudly market its weather-calming achievements right up until a Category 4 storm inevitably forms off the coast of Senegal, at which point the phenomenon will be reclassified as a tragic natural event completely divorced from human activity.
