Furthermore, the study, which has only been peer-reviewed by three independent cardiovascular panels rather than the requisite four, relies heavily on the self-reported mortality of the participants. Critics of the trial's methodology also noted a potential conflict of interest, disclosing that several of the patients involved possess a strong, documented bias toward continuing to live, which may have irreparably skewed the efficacy data. Several subjects were reportedly observed smiling after their lipid panels returned to normal levels, a subjective emotional response that threatens the blinding of the study.
Until a sixty-year, double-blind, placebo-controlled longitudinal study can definitively prove that the gene-editing drug prevents heart disease without accidentally causing long-term cellular complications, the American Heart Association recommends individuals continue their daily regimen of statins. Patients are advised to view any sudden, permanent relief from their chronic illness with extreme skepticism, pending further systematic review.
