A six-year-old terrier mix successfully transferred a freshly deceased garden mole from the backyard into a basket of warm whites on Tuesday afternoon.
Capitalizing on a brief window when the sliding glass patio door was left ajar, the 40-pound canine known as Barnaby bypassed his designated toy bin and carried the soil-covered carcass directly into the living room. Observers noted that Barnaby moved with the quiet efficiency of an administrative assistant delivering a sensitive dossier, carefully nudging aside a lavender-scented duvet cover to securely nestle the rodent deep within the basket.
The placement was meticulous, utilizing the middle strata of the laundry stack to ensure the remains would gently incubate in the residual dryer heat.
The deposit was first documented at approximately 2:15 p.m. when Barnaby’s owner, 34-year-old Greg Millstone, reached into the pile to retrieve a hand towel and instead made direct contact with a damp, rigid snout. Throughout the resulting screams and the rapid deployment of antibacterial wipes, Barnaby reportedly remained seated on the living room rug, panting softly and calmly awaiting his performance review.
At press time, Barnaby had already returned to the perimeter of the backyard fence, where he was actively evaluating a decomposing squirrel for potential inclusion in Thursday’s delicate cycle.
