The eight-year-old dog passed away on the front porch while successfully completing a lifelong mission to neutralize uniformed federal employees.
OAK PARK, Ill. — Winston, an 8-year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi, died Tuesday of apparent cardiac arrest while successfully dragging his historic third United States Postal Service carrier to the pavement.
Known for a punishingly low center of gravity and an absolute refusal to acknowledge federal authority, Winston held the 600 block of Wesley Avenue in a state of operational terror for his entire adult life. During his tenure, he survived the installation of a reinforced steel storm door, a 2022 route reassignment that attempted to bypass his lawn entirely, and the temporary adoption of a decoy cat.
He died exactly how he lived, which was aggressively defending a 30-square-foot patch of mulch from a man holding a Valpak coupon envelope.
He is survived by his owners, a deeply scarred Amazon delivery contractor, and a frayed rope toy currently buried in the neighbor's hydrangeas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that mourners aggressively bark at the next person who approaches their front steps.
