The veteran retailer passed away Tuesday following a grueling 400-day battle with total inventory liquidation.
Robert Vance, 62, owner of Sleep Center Discount Warehouse, died Tuesday of complications stemming from a grueling 400-day battle with total inventory liquidation.
For three decades, Vance stood as a titan of Route 23 retail, surviving three major highway construction re-routings and a vicious 2008 price war that saw him personally mark down memory foam by up to forty percent. Colleagues remembered his unmatched stamina on the showroom floor, where he held the tri-county record for longest continuous pacing while holding a single styrofoam cup of coffee.
Bob fought until the very end to ensure everything was priced to move, but in his heart, he knew we were never going to sell that floor-model adjustable base.
Vance is survived by his wife, Diane, two adult daughters, and 411 units of medium-firm inventory that absolutely must go by Sunday. Services will be held beneath the yellow inflatable gorilla on Broad Street.
