Arriving at the New England Aquarium in 1970, Myrtle anchored the Giant Ocean Tank, holding the facility record for aggressively biting volunteer scuba divers and refusing to acknowledge visiting state legislators.
She didn't just look right through you; she looked at your core, found it deeply lacking, and then went back to eating a head of romaine.
Myrtle is survived by three moray eels she routinely bullied, 14,000 traumatized elementary schoolers, and a half-eaten bell pepper. Visitors are asked to tap lightly on the glass Thursday so she may ignore them in spirit.
