The beloved 7-foot minor league mascot succumbed to structural collapse during Tuesday's second inning.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Rally The Pickle, the 7-foot foam mascot who energized minor league crowds for a decade, died Tuesday in the home dugout at Walker Stadium. He was 11. The cause was premature fermentation, team officials confirmed.
Rally spent his 11 seasons bringing joy to the third-base line, surviving three mascot-race collisions and a grueling 2019 dry-cleaning mishap. He held the franchise record for most consecutive games smelling faintly of dill and stale beer, and was widely respected for never breaking character while being swarmed by sticky toddlers.
He didn't just wear the brine, he lived it, right up until his structural integrity gave way in the second inning.
He is survived by his wife, a foam hot dog; two promotional sliders; and the groundskeeper who hosed him off on Sundays. Services will be held at the condiment stand.
