OAK PARK, Ill. — Frank Loman, 61, whose steadfast commitment to household waste management defined a quietly regimented suburban life, died Tuesday while attempting to slip a grease-soaked Domino’s pizza box into his municipal glass recycling bin.
A retired logistics manager, Loman suffered a fatal cardiac event just as the contaminated cardboard cleared the green plastic lid. Neighbors recalled a resilient man who survived three decades of brutal winters and a chaotic four-month kitchen remodel, only to succumb in his own driveway while actively subverting county refuse guidelines. He held the neighborhood record for promptness in returning a borrowed aluminum extension ladder, returning it after just 11 years.
Frank always knew the grease made it unrecyclable, but he just couldn't bear to put cardboard in the regular trash. He went out doing what he loved: hiding a minor municipal violation in the dark.
Loman is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a garage containing four perfectly flattened Amazon boxes awaiting transport. Services will be held Thursday at the curb.
