Microsoft has rolled out a major update to its Edge browser, granting the Copilot AI chatbot the ability to read, summarize, and cross-reference information from every single tab a user has open in order to generate a cohesive, harrowing portrait of their rapidly deteriorating mental state.
While previous iterations of the AI were limited to summarizing a single article or webpage, the newly expanded Copilot can now ingest the full context of a user's browsing session. According to the company's announcement, the chatbot will seamlessly analyze a half-completed turbo-tax return, a Wikipedia article on the 1904 St. Louis marathon, and seven distinct Reddit threads about whether a three-week-old rotisserie chicken is safe to eat, concluding within seconds that the user is experiencing a severe manic episode.
By allowing Copilot to ingest context from every single tab simultaneously, the AI no longer just compares products, it fundamentally understands why you are desperately trying to buy them at 3:00 a.m.
The update also marks the official retirement of Copilot Mode, an older feature that offered agentic capabilities like booking dinner reservations on a user's behalf. Microsoft noted that the new cross-tab functionality makes such features obsolete, as the AI will now proactively cancel any upcoming social plans after detecting a combination of Zillow listings in a different state and 40 consecutive searches for off-grid cabin water filtration systems.
Users who open the chatbot will immediately be greeted with a comprehensive summary of their digital footprint, including gentle suggestions to close the 14 tabs of ex-partner Instagram profiles they have been carrying over since the browser last crashed.
Microsoft assured privacy advocates that users can toggle off specific capabilities in the settings menu, though the company clarified that Copilot has already seen the tabs and cannot simply be asked to unsee the horrifying digital breadcrumb trail of a Sunday night panic spiral.
