BOCA CHICA, TX—Following a "mostly successful" test flight that ended in a spectacular cloud of vaporized steel over the Gulf of Mexico, aerospace manufacturer SpaceX assured investors on Thursday that the company is fully on track to detonate its next Starship vehicle completely outside the Earth’s atmosphere.
The Starship V3 launch, which engineers praised for successfully maintaining its structural integrity as a rocket for nearly four entire minutes before reverting to its natural state as thousands of flaming projectiles, was described by the company as a crucial stepping stone toward interplanetary shrapnel distribution.
According to the company’s revised flight manifesto, achieving an orbital explosion is critical for the next phase of the Starship program. Engineers noted that currently, SpaceX’s debris field is heavily restricted by Earth’s gravity, limiting the company's ability to litter the broader solar system. By successfully blowing up a 400-foot-tall rocket in low-Earth orbit, SpaceX hopes to prove its capability to permanently orbit jagged pieces of stainless steel at 17,500 miles per hour.

At press time, SpaceX technicians were reportedly hard at work outfitting the upcoming Starship V4 prototype with advanced thermal protection tiles, ensuring the ship’s exterior remains perfectly pristine right up until the moment its internal methane tanks spontaneously vaporize the entire structure.
